    略歴
In 1969, I started learning karate when I was a boy at the age of 10. I began to practice Shotokan karate with my cousin and became the first Slovenia karate champion in 1980s. I was a successful competitor winning numerous karate championships in former Yugoslavia and Slovenia. I also served as a trainer and coach in the championship match. In 1994, I visited Okinawa for the first time with my Uechi ryu friends, as I wanted to learn Bo-Jutsu. On that occasion, Sensei Ken Nakamatsu introduced me to Sensei Katsuhiko Shinzato. After the first training session with Sensei Shinzato, I recognized that my knowledge of karate will never be the same. I have been fascinated not only with his knowledge of his karate but also with his humanity and kindness. My great desire to learn from Sensei Shinzato made me return almost every year to Okinawa. I have attended his seminar in France in 2000 and U.S.A seminar in 2006 as well. In particular, I am proud that I could organize three international seminars in 2002, 2006 and 2015 with Sensei Shinzato in Ljubljana, Slovenia. While teaching in Slovenia, I also teach in Germany and Spain.

    略歴
I started karate training in Pennsylvania in 1982 at the age of 19. Karate training was very interesting to me and I could not train enough. Yes, I was excited about the physical aspects, but I also connected with the training on a mental and spiritual level. I read every book I could find on the subject, and I trained all the time. In 1986, I got married and we moved to Tallahassee Florida. I was thrilled when I found Sensei Steve Harless’ American Karate School. The next 10 years were some of my best memories and my Dojo friends were my Tallahassee Family. I was very sad when Sensei Harless decided to close the Dojo in 1996, but I decided to try and take on the task of running the Dojo in his place. I found having a commercial Dojo to be quite difficult, and it was hard to keep up the pace required with my job and a new baby girl in the Family. I closed the Dojo after only one year. Determined to continue training, I cleaned up my garage and trained in my home. During the time training in my garage, I drove to Panama City to train with Sensei Paris Janos as much as possible. Sensei Janos has made numerous trips to Okinawa over the years to train with Sensei Kishaba and Sensei Shinzato. Every time he would return, we would have Special Training to go over new material, and learn the latest concepts in body dynamics and Koshi. In Dec 2004/Jan 2005, I visited Shinzato Sensei along with Sensei Janos’ students and some of Sensei George Donahue’s students. Okinawa is an amazing place, and the opportunity to train with Sensei Shinzato, in his Hombu Dojo was one of the best experiences of my life. In December 2005, I was asked by the Aikido Sensei at North Florida School of Aikido to teach Karate classes at their Dojo. It was a great honor and I am still enjoying teaching there now, almost 11 years later. We have a very small class. Some nights there may only be two of us at the Dojo to train. We enjoy the training, though, and because of Kishaba Juku and Sensei Shinzato’s efforts, there is always more to learn in this “living art” called Karate. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have had over the years, and I look forward to many more years of training and teaching Kishaba Juku.

    略歴
Born on Okinawa, Japan. My father being a teacher of Shobudo Bujitsu Jujitsu I was raised with Martial Arts in my life. In my upbringing though I had been taught by my father at a very early age there was much he could not teach as I was too young for training in kansetsu waza. I began training in Karate 1970 with Sensei Odo Seikichi of Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo. Sensei Odo was also known for his interest and expertise in Kobudo (Matayoshi) which was taught as part of the training. In the period of 1974 – 1977 I also studied under Sensei Shiroma Jiro of Shorin Ryu Shorinkan. I left Okinawa in 1988 and moved to California USA, and had not found a satisfactory dojo or Sensei to continue my practice so I continued training on my own. In 1999 I started training in Wushu (Chinese Martial Arts) with Richard Branden until 2010. Though I competed in tournaments in Okinawa in the years of 1977 – 1988, I didn’t continue competition until years 2000 – 2006. Even during my time training in Wushu I continued to compete in Karate and Wushu. My Karate practice was the core of my training and my passion. In 2010 I was introduced to Sensei Budge Susan of Omine Karate Dojo who has been a student of Sensei Shinzato Katsuhiko for decades. I transitioned from being a guest instructor to a permanent instructor. Sensei Budge had opened Omine Karate Dojo with Sensei Omine Chotoku in 1973. This dojo has been open since. Sensei Budge deceased 2016. The Dojo had been passed on to me to carry on Sensei Budge and Sensei Omine’s legacy. In 2015 I had the first opportunity to meet Sensei Shinzato Katsuhiko as he taught a seminar at Omine Karate Dojo. And since have trained under Sensei Shinzato at the honbu dojo. I still have family on Okinawa so I will be frequenting training with Sensei Shinzato.

    略歴
I was 27 years old and married with kids when I was seized by a passion to study karate. I discovered Michael Rosati’s Okinawan Shorin-ryu Karate Dojo in Franklin Square, NY. I was hooked. In 1992, my family moved to Pittsburgh, PA but I continued to train in Shorin-ryu, opened a dojo and earned my Shodan and Nidan. In 1996, when Sensei Rosati tested me for Sandan (WMKA), George Donahue was on my panel. I found his insights intriguing and began an active correspondence with him. At the end of 1996, my family moved to Israel. George started sharing Kishaba Juku training materials with me. Sensei Rosati visited Israel in 2004 and promoted me to Godan. Soon thereafter, it became clear that managing my training from afar had become too difficult for him. I brought George to Israel to teach and he agreed to continue my training. I have been a student and teacher of Kishaba Juku ever since. Over the years, I have had many opportunities to train with him in CT and NY and have thus far had the pleasure of training with Shinzato-sensei in FL and NY, twice in Slovenia and once in Okinawa.
